When I first found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I was so worried about all the different things that I would need to take care of her. As a full-time working woman with family and friends all over the country, I’m always on the go. I was nervous about how I would manage to take care of my daughter in spite of my go-go-go lifestyle.
It seemed like a playard with a bassinet was going to be the best option for a portable crib. We could use it day-to-day at home, as well as for our longer trips on the road to visit friends and family. In this Graco Pack n Play review, I am covering the many aspects of this playard to help you decide if this is the best portable crib option for you and your little family.
Graco Pack n Play Review Summary
To help give an overall view of the Graco Pack n Play I’ve scored the playard on four factors. Value for money, Durability, Baby Sleep Ergonomics, and Washability. I’ve given each factor a score out of 25 below.
Value for Money
For under $100, the Pack n Play is a versatile bassinet, crib, and play area. You can use it
Luckily, this playard has lasted for my first baby’s entire infancy. However, the mechanism is getting harder to fold. I’ll likely have to buy another when my second one little one comes along in just a few months
Baby Sleep Ergonomics
As a newborn, my firstborn slept comfortably in the bassinet during her naps. Once she got too big for the bassinet, she would fuss so much in the larger crib that I had to get a new mattress to help.
Even with the occasional blow-out diaper, cleaning this mobile crib has been easy to clean. The fabric is waterproof and stain resistant.

What I Like
Graco Pack n Play Review
What I Don’t Like
- There are wheels to help make it easier to move around, even when I’m alone.
- It’s easy to pack up the playard when we’re ready to go using the push to fold function.
- The bassinet is removable, so the Pack n Play has been able to grow as my baby has grown from newborn to toddler.
- The mesh net is very durable.
- Although I’ve had minimal issues with my Pack n Play since I first put it together, I did have a hard time constructing it right out of the box.
- Because the Pack n Play is so wide, I can’t move it from room to room once it is upright.
- The mattress has a ridge in the center that helps for folding, and I’ve never found a way to get it to go away. Instead, I had to buy a separate mattress to put in the bottom.
- The Pack n Play is made of metal and is a bit heavy. I sometimes have a hard time getting it into my trunk when my husband isn’t around.
Overall Graco Pack n Play Review Score: 85/100
Overall, this playard has been a versatile addition to our home, and it has been especially useful for traveling. Initially, we used the bassinet function in other rooms in the house when the little one was an infant. As she grew up, my husband and kept using the playard for a portable crib and playpen when we’re traveling. The mesh was surprising durable during this whole time period.
The biggest drawback of the Pack n Play On the Go is that we had to get a mattress to put in the bottom. While the bassinet was great, the mattress that comes with the playard isn’t suitable for a growing little girl. We were also disappointed that the poles stopped fitting together after a few years of use. We plan on getting a new playard when our second baby is born in just a few months.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Playard
Finding a versatile, durable playard can be a challenge. Ideally, I wanted my playard to be usable from the time my daughter was born up until the time she didn’t need to sleep in a crib anymore. That way, my husband and I would be able to use the playard during the day as well as for our many weekend trips to visit family and friends.
The most important thing for this was, of course, the portability. I wanted the playard to be as lightweight as possible. I also wanted it to be compact enough to fit into the trunk of our car. Wheels would be an added bonus so that we could move the playard around as needed on our trips.
I also wanted a playard that had a bassinet that we could use as soon as our little girl was born. However, once our baby got a little older, I wanted to be able to remove the bassinet so that our playard could always be appropriate for her age.
ast, but not least, I wanted a playard that would be comfortable for my baby and easy to clean. This was actually a suggestion from my mother-in-law, who reminded me that babies are often very messy creatures. Finding a crib made from breathable, comfortable fabrics that I could wipe down at a moment’s notice was especially important.
So, to recap, this is the list of things that I kept in mind while I was looking for my playard:
Presenting the Graco Pack n Play On the Go Playard
After considering many different brands and various models, I settled for the Graco Pack n Play On the Go. This playard had a compact, straightforward design that included, unlike many of the other models, a full-size, removable bassinet. For portability, this Graco playard is able to be folded using the brand’s signature push-button fold. It’s only slightly heavier than some of the more expensive name brands. Finally, Graco’s designers paid close attention to the important details. The Pack n Play is equipped with a small toy bar, wheels, and easy-to-clean fabric.

I really enjoyed this feature because it was straightforward. Not only that, the button has enough resistance that my curious two-year-old can’t push it on her own. But, it is still easy enough for my mother-in-law to press.
The wheels are designed to help you transport the playard across the room without having to fold it back up. I was especially thankful for this feature when we stored the playard in our room while our little girl was a newborn. With the wheels, I didn’t need to awkwardly drag the playard across the room to vacuum. Instead, I just had to lift the side and push gently so that I could access the space underneath the crib.

When I was looking for a playard during my pregnancy, I spent a lot of time scouring every online review. I wanted to get a good feel for what playard would be best for our busy family. In the end, I was reassured by the huge number of customer reviews I found online about the Graco Pack n Play On the Go. The vast majority of the Graco Pack n Play Reviews give this travel crib almost full marks
Of course, among the high ratings, I was concerned because of certain aspects that kept reoccurring in the negative reviews. Among these were worries about the mattress that came with the playard. Some of the reviewers were disappointed to find that the mattress smelled very strongly of chemicals. O
However, knowing that Graco has been a trusted brand for many decades, I decided to trust the overwhelming majority of people that had positive reviews of this playard. In many cases, the reviewers offered very simple solutions for these problems. These included airing out the mattress for a few weeks to remove the chemical smell or opting to buy a more comfortable mattress. The large majority of people seemed to be so confident in this Pack n Play that they even used it
Overall, our experience has also been a very positive one. When asked, I have also recommended the Graco Pack n Play on The Go to my family and friends.
Shortfalls and Alternatives
The main downside to this playard is that you will most likely need to invest in a more comfortable mattress when your baby outgrows the bassinet. You might also find that it isn’t compact enough if you frequently travel by airplane. Also, you might need to have extra features like a changing table when you’re traveling.
For other playards that might be a better fit for your needs, you can also consider these alternatives:
- Joovy Room Playard and Nursery Center: This playard has many of the same features as the Graco Pack n Play On the Go, but it also gives you access to a few bonuses like a flip-away changing table and a side pocket you can use for storing diapers and other baby supplies while you are traveling.
- Lotus Travel Crib and Portable Baby Playard Review: The Lotus Travel crib is a more expensive playard, but its equipped with some unique features like a zipped side door and a backpack carry case.
- Evenflo Portable Babysuite Deluxe Review: The Evenflo Babysuite is a budget playard but still has lots of useful features like a changing table, storage pockets, and a play mat.
Graco Pack n Play Review Conclusion
I have been really pleased with the Graco Pack n Play On the Go playard. It has been a versatile and durable place for little E to sleep and play that I have been able to use since she was born. Not only is it portable,
